Atlantic swell, a wide river mouth and steady summer wind: Viana is one of northern Portugal's favourite spots to get in the water.

Praia do Cabedelo, just across the Rio Lima, is the heart of it all. Beginners find soft, rolling waves on the right days, and when the summer afternoon wind picks up, the kitesurfers and windsurfers take over. On calm days the river is perfect for a relaxed SUP or kayak trip.
