Fresh sardines sizzling on a charcoal grill, the summer classic of northern Portugal

Eat & drink in Viana do Castelo

Grilled fish straight from the Atlantic, hearty Minho cooking and a glass of fresh vinho verde: eating well is part of every day in Viana.

Viana sits in the Minho, home of vinho verde and generous country cooking. Along the river and in the old town you'll find simple tascas, seafood restaurants and pastelarias where locals stop for a coffee and something sweet. Lunch is the big meal of the day, and dinner starts later than you might be used to.
